Ann Arbor Give Camp Details and Answers
The 2009 Ann Arbor Give Camp will be held at the Washtenaw Community College in Ann Arbor, MI. There is a map of the campus at http://www.wccnet.edu/aboutwcc/collegeinfo/directionsandmaps/campusmap.php.
Registration is open at 5pm on Friday, July 17th. Please arrive between 5-5:45pm to register at the North Entrance lobby of the BE Building. After registering, there is a short walk to the auditorium in LA 275 for the kick-off. The kickoff gathering begins at 6pm.
Your non-profit assignment will be sent in a separate email, next week.
The weekend will be structured as follows:
Friday 7/17 from 5-6pm - Registration: Participants should plan to arrive between 5 - 5:45pm, and should park in lot #4, just to the north of the Business Education Building. Registration is at the information desk just inside the northwest building entrance. Please sign in and then there is a short walk to the kick-off gathering in the next building (there will be signs directing you where to go).
Friday 7/17 at 6pm - Opening presentation: The event kick-off will be held at the Washtenaw Community College LA 275. At this time, we'll briefly go over event logistics and the non-profit organizations will be introduced. After the opening ceremony, we will break into development teams, introduce ourselves, begin discussing the project, and get an opportunity to speak directly with the charity representative, clarifying their needs. Pizza, salad, and drinks will be served during this time (thanks, Domino's!).
Throughout the weekend, developers work on the projects in a number of classrooms in the BE building at Washtenaw Community College. Room BE158 is the "Break Room", where we will have snacks and drinks, as well as games set up for when you need a break.
Sunday 7/19 at 3pm - Code hand-off from the developers to the nonprofits will begin.
Sunday 7/19 at 4pm - Closing presentation: The event wrap-up will also be held at the Washtenaw Community College LA 275. At the kick-off presentation, the spotlight was on the non-profit organizations. At the wrap-up, the spotlight is now on the volunteers, who will demonstrate the website or software that they have created. The event will end at 5pm at the latest.

What should I bring?
- A laptop or computer to work on.
- If you plan to spend the night, bring a sleeping bag and tent if you wish. Note that we aren't allowed to drive stakes into the ground. If you have a tent requiring stakes, please being another means to secure it (heavy bags or something). We will have big event tents set up also.
- Meals, snacks, and drinks will be provided, but you are welcome to bring food of your own if there are particular snacks you want.
Where will I sleep?
- Sleep? What's that?
- Last year, we had one dedicated room for sleeping and plan to do the same this year. There are also a few hotels within a short distance of the campus.
- You are also welcome to go home in the evenings to sleep rather than camping out all weekend long.
What about showers?
- There are no shower facilities for us to use on campus, so if you *really* need a shower, you'll need to make your own arrangements.
If you are camping out all weekend long:We will have a small kitchen with microwave and sink. If you have anything you'd like to keep cool, please bring a cooler. Again, no tents which drive stakes into the ground.
I'm working remotely from Knoxville and not coming to Ann Arbor. If you are working at a remote location, you will need to bring a laptop. Please refer to your local lead (Nathan Blevins - nblevins@nathanblevins.com in Knoxville) for further instructions.
