2nd Annual Michigan Give Camp in Ann Arbor - Looking for charities / non-profits
Do you need a new website? Do you have a website that you’d like to have redesigned? How about a donor management system or perhaps some custom software? Apply for the 2nd annual Michigan Give Camp in Ann Arbor! We are currently accepting proposals from non-profit organizations until July 6, 2009.
The 2nd annual Michigan Give Camp in Ann Arbor is scheduled for the weekend of July 17-19, 2009 at the Washtenaw Community College. Last year, we helped 15 organizations, including the Michigan Humane Society, Child Care Network, Center Stage Drama, Forgotten Harvest, and many more. A recent Give Camp in Lansing helped another 13 charities.
During the Give Camp, software developers will donate their time to create websites and custom software for non-profit organizations. This custom software could be a new website for the nonprofit organization, a small data-collection application to keep track of members, or a application for the Red Cross that automatically emails a blood donor three months after they’ve donated blood to remind them that they are now eligible to donate again. The only limitation is that the project should be scoped to be able to be completed in a weekend.
The local developer community, in partnership with Microsoft, would like to offer a Give Camp in the Ann Arbor area. Note that non-profit organizations throughout Michigan will be considered; we are not limited to Ann-Arbor-based charities.
All source code will be turned over at the end of the weekend, but your non-profit organization is responsible for maintaining it. A representative from your organization will also be required to be present at the Friday kickoff meeting and the Sunday closing meeting, at minimum. But you are welcome to attend as much of the event as possible – the charities that are usually happiest with their project at the end of the weekend are the ones who were present more often to provide feedback to the developers.
ACTION: If you have a software project that can be completed in a weekend by a team of 5 developers, please fill out the document at http://michigangivecamp.org/cms/files/NonProfitProposalForMichiganGiveCamp09.doc and send it to nonprofits@MichiganGiveCamp.org by July 6, 2009.
For more information, please check out our website at http://michigangivecamp.org/. Also, feel free to send questions to nonprofits@MichiganGiveCamp.org. We look forward to hearing from you!
